I'm Back!

Okay, okay. I'm awful at keeping written blogs, but I promise to update this more! Especially since I realized that I missed blogging about 2 months at the last school.

I'm officially done at my winter placement, and I am really sad. The school was a great experience and my mentor teacher was awesome! I'm glad he's willing to stay in touch because I learned a lot from him.
I start at my new school on Tuesday. Although I don't have to wake up at 5:45 anymore, the school days are longer, which means less time for myself and more time for homework. Plus, the bus ride requires a transfer now. Not fun.

Oh, to finish off last quarter I made homemade cards, record bowls, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for my mentor teacher and the metro bus driver as a thank you. I know it sounds weird that I made the bus driver stuff, but he was seriously the nicest man alive and I wanted him to know that his actions were being noticed. Every day he said "Good morning, teacher." Since he knew I wanted to be a teacher. There was one lady who always got off at Xavier U, and she usually got off at this one particular stop. Well, one day the bus driver stopped there for her because that is where she usually got off, and she responded in a very nasty way, "I didn't pull the cord for this stop." I guess in a way I wanted him to know that people are not all like that and some people do appreciate what he does (or any public worker for that matter). After working 3 years in a restaurant I know how unrewarding such a profession can be when you come in contact with some many unappreciative people. I guess that is kind of what teaching is...

Anyway, I should probably get some sleep and enjoy my last "free" weekday before student teaching starts up again.

Snow Days

Being from Cleveland you live you snow days, although they were rarely given because people know how to drive in the snow there. But still, I would wake up and watch the news waiting for my school to come on and then loving that moment when your heart stops because you, in fact, were given a snow day.

I still do that now, even as a 21 year old in college. Who doesn't love a good snow day? But now that I'm student teaching I don't want snow days. I was so upset to find that CPS cancelled school today. First, it's sunny. Second, they should have had the streets cleared last night like normal cities. Here I am, at home, thinking about how many hours I am missing right now.

Of course, if I ever become a real teacher I am going to look forward to snow days, but right now I love going into the school. It's so much better than school!

Words of advice Mother Nature: Please leave all snow days for Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you!

"Miss Albert? Aren't you cold wearing a dress?"

"Are You Going to be a Teacher?"

So, sometimes (well, a lot of times) I get really frustrated with becoming a teacher. I don't think I'm good enough at all, but then I feel like God puts people in my life to make me feel like I'm making the right decision. I take the public transportation to the school where I'm doing my student teaching at. Today when I was getting off the bus the bus driver, out of no where, asked if I was going to be a teacher. When I said "yes" he replied, "You look like you'll be a good educator." That small comment made my day! I don't know how he assumed I wanted to be a teacher, but it's cool that I come off that way! :)

At the school today so many funny things happened! Here are four conversations. I hope you find them as funny as I did!

[Talking about trade and low wages in other countries]
Teacher: You guys think you have it rough, but you're really luck to be born in the United States.
Student: Yeah, we could be like a bird or something.

Student 1: My grandma said we owe like $2.7 billion to some other country or something. We don't have that much money.
Student 2: Oprah do.

Teacher: My brother works in Cleveland. Do you all know where Cleveland is? Cleveland used to have a lot of factories. Now, they don't have very many.
Student: Is it because LeBron left?

[Talking about why countries trade]
Teacher: Where do we get bananas?
Student: Kroger.

The first day of student teaching this happened:

Teacher: What's an example of labor?
Student 1: Workers.
Teacher: I need specific type of workers.
Student 2: Asians!

Teacher: If you could make one thing what would it be?
Student: A time machine.
