First Snow of the Year

Last Saturday (October 29) was our first snow of the year. I love snow, but I wasn't prepared for it coming so soon. I remember we got our first snowed in the middle of October last year, but I don't remember when the first BIG snow came. Since Saturday, it's snowed every day! I have a love/relationship with it. I love it because this time of year is my favorite, and it's really putting me in the Christmas mood! On the other hand I don't miss walking over uneven surfaces and risking a slip on ice because they don't remove it from the sidewalk.

Saturday night my friends also invited me over for dinner. I love Russian gatherings because there is always so much food that, by the end of the night, you feel like you want to explode. We had two different Russian salads, and then chicken with melted cheese and pasta. I also ate grapes even though I couldn't bear to put anything more in my stomach. The night finished with tea and dessert. Throughout the night we also watched crazy Russian tv shows, admired Aigul's cat, and played several rounds of Mafia. Russians love playing Mafia!

Whenever you are invited over someone's house you are expected to bring something to share. This is something that's hard for me to remember. I'm used to asking people if I can bring anything to their house, which is what I always did in the USA. It doesn't have to be a meal, but usually people bring wine or cookies.

My friends are also fans of taking selfies, which is another thing I still haven't gotten used to in Russia. I HATE selfies.

What's the weather like where you are?

  2. We had a brief snowfall here in Toronto around the same time as you, but it turned into wet flurries by late afternoon. Now we are back to warmer weather comparable to June even though it's the FREAKIN' FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER! I actually wouldn't mind having a bit of chilly Autumn weather at the moment as my apartment building has switched over from air conditioning to heat a couple of weeks ago and my condo feels like a boiler room at the moment. I'd switch places with you in a heartbeat. :)

    1. Yeah, my family in Cleveland said the same thing about the temperature! I love the cold, so I don't mind. Oh, my apartment was SO hot in October. I had to have the windows open because I couldn't handle the heat.

    1. I'm glad you like them! I am sort of jealous! Jealous that you are in Nicaragua, but not so jealous of the temperature. I like cold weather. :)
